Central Presbyterian Church

Purposefully bringing people together for community action and ministries of passion, peace and justice.

Central is fully engaged in serving the community by offering a place of worship, rest, spiritual refreshment and nurture.

Since 1970 Central Church has operated a food pantry on Wednesday mornings (8 a.m. -- noon) that provides groceries and fresh produce to approximately 120 households each month. Pantry patrons may also select items of clothing and housewares from the extensive Clothes Closet. Holidays are a time for extra meat distributions and the gifting of new warm outerwear. Also available is help in enrolling in the food stamp program.

We support the global mission of the Presbyterian Church (USA). We have special ties to a mission worker in Africa and to a Christian community in Mexico where we helped source potable water.

We provide rehearsal space for the Mid America Freedom Band, Kansas City's LGBTQ community band. The band performs in concert and plays at many functions annually as ambassadors for Kansas City's LGBTQ community.

We are the site of monthly Hyde Park Neighborhood Association meetings (3rd Tuesdays, 7 p.m.)

Shepherd's Center Central makes use of our large kitchen to prepare Meals on Wheels for 200 low income seniors, five days a week.
